"However, in the United States, plans are underway to build a statue in Houston, Texas, called The Spirit of Houston, that would be even higher."

texans, leave comments here - will the spirit of houston beat a buddha? the most important question of the century...

"Playing a game of Scrabble on the computer used to be a quiet, relaxing pleasure and you could install it from a floppy disk or two. Today, it takes a CD to hold all the bells and whistles that have been added -- and the patience of Job to work your way through all this stuff just so you can play a game of Scrabble." (biblical reference...sweet sweet jesus)

"I haven't seen such ruses used in a mass mailer in a long time. This piece of code is so sloppy, it's devious," said Mircea Ciubotariu, a researcher at Romanian AV firm BitDefender.

Speaking of Mechanical Reproduction

(aura as redefined as one of the most disturbing movies known to man, signified by a white stripe (and a difference of about 300 dollars) around the dvd)

Salo - The Criterion Collection Edition story...must still be written, about facets, criterion and bootlegs. maybe i will someday, but all the information seems too sketchy. alas, a movie that is worth at very least 300 dollars (but prolly closer to 400-500 dollars is sitting on my desk and i'm not sure how i feel about it). those criterion collection dvd nuts have gone uber-bonkers. end of story.

A couple reviews on Stylus...

Claro Intellecto

Hand on the Plow (on the bottom of the page) - check out the hand on the plow website for mp3s.

A recap of recent albums (with links to finding music samples on the web) -

feeling...

Kompakt 100

With the concept of taking classic Kompakt songs and remixing them for the 100th release, Kompakt 100 is pretty much a wet-dream for some folks (see may 25th). I guess this is as good a time as any to pledge my undying allegience to the label's cause. maybe not. this collection is solid throughout, but mebbe not spectacular. i guess the originals are hard to live up to (even with two versions of superpitcher's tomorrow, it wasn't enough).

Giorgio Moroder - From Here to Eternity

While taking Donna Summer to superstar-dom, Moroder also produced some amazing work - this was produced with *only electronic keyboards* - dance, synthpop, etc, etc. file this under "even more incredible than his moustache.

Maja Ratkje - Voice

Using Ratkje's voice as the one and only instrument on the album, this might be considered avant-garde by default. definitely difficult, but interesting text(ures). from the compulsive and tickled "joy" to the atmospheric "voice" this album brims with imagination, but very skewed. stir, let it sit and enjoy at your own risk.

really feeling...

matthew dear - backstroke ep

"Tide" is Matthew Dear's amazing foray back into synth-pop through microhouse (expectations). Mebbe I'm a hack, but I can't help to see this guy not get more credit - the off-balance "Grut Wall" kills me everytime i hear it, and "Good Girl" layers so bloody nicely. major plus is dear's insane workrate - something like the 20th song i've heard from him in the many months...

phoenix - alphabetical

parisian synth-pop. very tasty and first caught my eye (ear) with "If I ever feel Better." Great selection of songs, but not too much to be said - dance-y but still straight-up pop.

"Everything is Everything" music video - not amazing, but still...

more albums in the coming days....the question now is whether i should cave in and make (outside bowie) into an mp3-blog. what do y'all think?
